چکیده

The effect of ply thickness on the notch sensitivity and bearing properties carbon fibre reinforced polymer composites their hybrid laminates with steel foils were studied. Laminates thicknesses 0.3 mm 0.03 comprising CFRP manufactured characterized using tension, open hole tension double lap tests. A 25% substitution was found to load extensive plastic deformation in joint while maintaining high stress constant cross-sectional laminate. With a good agreement between finite element predicted values failure behaviour, damage initiation progression behaviour could be observed experimentally. We numerically captured (i) rapid 0° plies thin (ii) continuous delamination significant for thick hybrid. numerical results significantly reduce future experimental work when designing allow laminate lay-up tailored cases. Both experiments models underline distinct size effects occurring respect hybridising very ductile metal brittle yet strong composite material.

Dynamic Characteristics of Joined Steel and Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Plastic Tubes: Experimental and Numerical Investigation

The fundamental frequencies and mode shapes of steel and carbon fiber–reinforced plastic (CFRP) cylindrical shells with steel inserts were investigated using finite element analysis and modal testing. The free-free boundary condition was tested with modal testing using the roving hammer method and verified by finite element analysis using ABAQUS. The results show good agreement between the test...

Investigation of Mode I Delamination Resistance in Inter-ply and Intra-ply Hybrid Composites Reinforced with Basalt/Nylon Woven Fabrics

Due to their sensitivity to impact-induced delamination, woven fabric reinforced polymer composites have limited practical applications. Hybridization of polymer composites has been proposed as a solution to this problem. In this study, the effects of fiber reinforcement type, hybridization method, plies stacking sequence and loading rate on mode I delamination behavior of pure basalt, pure nyl...

Non-destructive Characterization of Ply Orientation and Ply Type of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Laminated Composites

As the fuel efficiency of vehicles is being increased over the next decade due to both consumer demand and regulations, several automobile manufacturers are incorporating fiber-reinforced composites into their product line due to their high strength to weight ratio. While the fiber-reinforced components are lighter than the traditional aluminum and steel components, the processing and repair of...

Numerical and Experimental Investigations on the Behavior of Steel-reinforced Concrete Columns Subjected to Eccentric Loading

Steel-reinforced concrete (SRC) columns, which are classified as composite columns, became the most widely used in recent years; because of their extensive advantages over the reinforced concrete and the steel columns. In this paper, the ductility index and its influential factors were explored to investigate the behavior of SRC columns. A straightforward approach was then proposed by establish...

Effects of particle size and weight percentage of heavy metal elements on photon shielding efficiency of reinforced polymer composites

Background: Polymer composites when reinforced with heavy metals in the form of micro/nano particles are efficient gamma- and X-ray shielding materials providing such advantageous features as cost-effectiveness, light-weight factor, flexibility, non-toxicity, conformability over conventional shields. Materials and Methods: In this paper the influence of weight percentages and particle sizes of ...
